May you be mindful of the stories you weave …
A prayer, a blessing, from my heart to yours.
I’m currently in the midst of interviewing for jobs.
I’ve become acutely aware of the intimate connection between my emotional state and the picture I craft of a situation, based on what elements I’m choosing to focus on and how I’m weaving them into a story.
I can become excited or depressed about the EXACT SAME opportunity depending on how I choose to package or frame it, and whether this packaging or framing matches what I think would be stimulating and engaging for me, what I think I want, or don’t want, or what I think would be boring and painful.
I’m noticing also how it’s not one particular opportunity or another that really excites (or depresses) me. It’s the future I imagine that opportunity will lead to that excites (or depresses) me, especially when I create the idyllic future including all the elements I think would bring me joy (or vice versa). As if one particular opportunity or another is the key to this magical place of all the things I think I’d love or hate….
To say the least, I’m finding myself an endless source of entertainment recently, watching the rollercoaster of emotional highs and lows.
A friend shared with me this quote from the Bhagavad Gita, ‘In sorrow not rejected, in joy not overjoyed’.
And I was referred to the work of Herb Cohen, as a great resource for learning negotiation skills. In the first few minutes of the first video I watched featuring Herb, he was speaking about this line of caring, but not caring too much.
And it’s these experiences that have inspired today’s blessing…
May you genuinely be present to what is,
May you allow for the emotional ebb and flow, while not getting carried away by it,
May you allow it to move through you, and not become you,
May you notice how invested you may be getting, one way or the other.
May you be mindful of the perspectives you craft,
The stories you weave and tell yourself and others,
The elements you choose to focus on and the meaning you give to them.
May you find personal amusement when you catch yourself crafting elaborate future outcomes, that are leading to this moment’s emotional chaos,
May you be compassionate with yourself,
May you be open and curious to what lies beneath,
May you connect back to the moment,
To what is,
And may you remember that this moment just is…..
‘Good? Bad? Who knows?’
In the words of Shakespeare, ‘There is nothing either good or bad but thinking makes it so.’
And John Milton, ‘The mind is its own place and, in itself can make a heaven of hell or a hell of heaven.”
So may it be. 🙏
Much love always.💚

A while ago I decided to find uplifting images, ones that made me smile and lifted my spirit. And to send them together with a blessing, a personal wish, to my immediate family. Over time it’s become a ‘daily-ish’ morning practice via WhatsApp to a slowly growing recipient list. Recently I’ve started to share these blessings and images on social media too, with a prayer that they brighten the world of those who receive them.
